There is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease once it has begun; however, there are different treatment methods as well as some ways which may serve as Alzheimer’s prevention methods. While some methods are intended for the prevention of secondary dementia (that is, dementia that is caused by an underlying disease or condition) these methods may also work for the treatment or prevention of Alzheimer’s. They include taking vitamin supplements, treating hypertension with appropriate medications, and not drinking alcohol.
In addition, those who suffer from anxiety or depression can sometimes display signs of dementia; proper treatment of these conditions with appropriate medications may help in the prevention of Alzheimer’s. There are other prevention methods for Alzheimer’s. Not all of them have been proven to work; however, it is known that keeping oneself healthy can help prevent any number of diseases, including Alzheimer’s.
Diet and nutrition are an important part of a healthy lifestyle. While it has been theorized that eating or not eating certain foods may help with the treatment or prevention of Alzheimer’s, there is no real proof of that; however, the methods suggested—eating less meat and consuming foods high in vitamins, particularly Vitamin E and Vitamin C—are still appropriate suggestions for good nutrition.
Proper circulation in the arteries and blood vessels leading to the brain is necessary for optimal brain function. Since it is known that cigarette smoking reduces circulation, quitting smoking may help in the prevention of Alzheimer’s Disease. It has been speculated that previous head injuries may be a cause of dementia. Wearing protective headgear when biking or participating in sports can be a method of prevention.
As mentioned earlier, when Alzheimer’s is diagnosed, there is no cure. However, there are treatment methods that can be utilized. These include medications that prevent acetylcholine deterioration, and Vitamin E supplements. And living a healthy lifestyle of nutritious food and regular exercise is the best preventative method.
