In a report recently published in the The Lancet, Telcagepant is in the class of drugs called triptans. This class usually isn’t very effective at preventing or reducing migraines and have severe side effects for people with a risk for heart disease. It also causes dizziness, tightness in the throat, numbness and uncomfortable feelings in the chest.

However, Telcagepant is different and doesn’t carry the same side effects as other triptans do. The worst effects are nausea, drowsiness and dry mouth. A desirable side effect for people struggling with weight loss is that it makes some people lose weight.

The preventative drug may be the answer for many migraine sufferers. Since it is preventative, you will need to take it as recommended to ward off headaches. While taking a pill a day isn’t everyone’s desire, it’s better than falling victim to the excruciating and annoying pain caused by migraines.
