With over 28 million Americans suffering from migraines, it’s no wonder that people everywhere are wondering if they will have them for their entire life. The good news is that according to Sweden research, migraines will typically lessen with age. However, it may not be for 25 or more years.
Reasons for Migraine Relief in 25 Years
It’s unclear exactly why the research showed that migraines decreased with age. Since the average onset for migraines is about 20 years old, it may be due to some hormonal changes, especially with women. Around 20, you are in the prime age for conception and hormones may be at its peak. Once you hit menopause time (around the 50 year mark) your hormones start to change again, which could be the reason for the change in migraines.
Another reason for migraine relief in individuals who are middle aged is that they have found ways to either avoid them or stop them before they become severe. Since these individuals have been dealing with them all their life, they know their triggers or know that as soon as they get a headache that they better take some medication or it will turn into a migraine.
One more reason why I think that there is migraine relief in 25 years is because at around age 50 you finally know what you are doing with your life. At age 20, you are just starting out. There’s a lot of stress and many changes in your life. This is true through your 20s and into your 30s. As you get into the 40s, your life has pretty much ironed itself out and by 50, you’re good to go. Of course, this isn’t true of everyone but for many it is.
On a Personal Note
I am a migraine sufferer. I would love to have this be true and not have to deal with so many migraines later in life. I’ve had them since I was a teenager and finally knowing what life is without a headache would be devine.
