With news of the new health care vote, many military service members and veterans wonder if this will negatively influence their health coverage. They worry if they will have to end up paying for additional health insurance because of the new health care changes.
The government assures, however, that these changes will not affect military health care in a negative way. In a comment from Defense Secretary Robert Gates and a statement from VA Secretary Eric Shinseki, both state that the changes will not alter the health care protections that military members and veterans have earned through service.
What’s important to keep in mind currently, is that if you remain in tricare, you don’t have to worry about the changes. However, if you leave tricare health insurance you will be subject to the new changes.
Seeing is Believing: People Still on Edge
Even though there are promises that military and VA will not see the impacts of the new health care bill, some people are still holding their breath to make sure this is true. All that everyone can do is hold on and see. If there are changes, there’s not much we can all do except brave the storm.
