erstand how their work environment can affect their health later on in life. They don’t take safety precautions and believe they are invincible. While some others, unfortunately become exposed to dangerous chemicals accidentally and face the health effects years later.
Understanding Mesothelioma
Mesothelioma is caused by a prolonged exposure to asbestos and accidental inhalation or ingestion of its fibers. Not everyone who has had exposure to asbestos will suffer from mesothelioma, it just increases your risk.
Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that attacks the lining of your internal organs. Diagnosis is determined by doing x-rays and diagnostic testing. Complications due to this type of cancer include heart failure, fluid in the chest cavity or pleural effusion and difficulty breathing or swallowing. Treatment depends on the stage you are in. Treatments include chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. However, there is ongoing research searching for specific treatment for mesothelioma, making it more effective.
Beating Mesothelioma
If you or your loved one suffers from mesothelioma, the best thing you can do is not give up and continue fighting this battle against cancer. Follow through with all of your doctor’s recommendations and treatments. Seek support from loved ones and others who suffer from mesothelioma.
If you don’t have this rare form of cancer, but work in an environment with asbestos. Take the necessary precautions set forth by your employer. Protect yourself at all times and avoid it as much as possible.
