Health, Skin Disorders

Spring break is fast approaching and many college kids are thinking about how they will look the best on the beach. Many believe that having a tan is the best way to step out in their bikinis. Many of these spring breakers will flock into tanning salons with tanning beds to get their tan on. However, they don’t pay attention the warning that tanning beds can significantly increase your risk for cancer.

The World Health Organization has announced that tanning beds are a cancer cause because of its ultraviolet radiation. Teens and young adults who use tanning beds increase their risk of melanoma by as much as 75 percent.

Melanoma is a severe form of skin cancer and last year, out of the 69,000 people who were diagnosed with it, 8,650 died from it. Keep in mind that is just last year. Many people will go on who have been diagnosed and die later on from it.

Alternatives to Tanning Beds

Don’t risk your health by using cancer causing tanning beds, take different measures to look your best on the beach this spring break season.

If you buy a really good self-tanner, you can get almost the same results. You just have to be careful with the brand so that you don’t end up looking orange.

You can also save up and invest in getting spray tanning. Since you aren’t tanning under lights, you don’t have to worry about the cancer.

Going Natural and Cancer Free

Finally, you could just go pale. It’s better to look pale than to have a growth on your skin that continues to grow into a cancer called melanoma.
