Headaches, Health, Weight Loss

Aspartame can cause cancer in the brain, lymph glands and kidneys if used as an artificial sweetener. This finding was discovered in 2006 by the Italian Ramazzini Foundation, when a study looked at 200 rats who ingested the aspartame at much lower doses than what humans usually ingest. In 2007, the same foundation discovered that offspring of rates who consumed aspartame during pregnancy had higher rates for cancer in their brain, lymph glands and kidneys.

Aspartame by Another Name

If this information scares you enough to stop using aspartame products such as Nutrasweet and Equal, keep in mind that it does come under different names. An new artificial sweetener about to hit the market is AminoSweet. This is the same as aspartame, so it will have the same effects.

Is Sugar Better?

People use artificial sweeteners because they don’t want the added calories of sugar in their weight maintenance or loss plans. However, sometimes you have to take the good with the bad. Deciding to ingest sugar may add a pound or two, but it’s not a carcinogenic. Or you could just give up on all sugar drinks and choose water instead, which is what everyone needs to drink more of anyway.
