Breast cancer awareness is a hot topic these days and it’s important that people everywhere understand the different forms of breast cancer so that they can help themselves as well as their loved ones. One that many people are not aware of is triple negative breast cancer.
Understanding Triple Negative Breast Cancer
Research on breast cancer continues to evolve and now there is information that it isn’t just one form of cancer but has three types. Triple negative breast cancer means that the receptors that are responsible for the development of the tumor(s) are negative in progesterone, estrogen and HER2. They are negative because these receptors don’t respond to treatments involving targeting specific receptors. Instead, chemotherapy is much more effective. Unfortunately, chemotherapy affects the entire body rather than a target area such as the receptors of the breasts. However, researchers are actively trying to find targeted treatments for triple negative breast cancer.
