If you have a mysterious skin rash on your cheek, ear or fingers, you may be experiencing a newly recognized skin rash called “mobile phone dermatitis”.

The British Association of Dermatologists are the first to start spreading this new information about the side effects of long term cell phone usage. It’s believed that the culprit for the skin rash is the nickel plating on most cell phones. Individuals who have a nickel allergy are most susceptible to this skin rash and especially women who wear nickel jewelry since it takes an overabundance of exposure to develop an allergic reaction.

Treatment for Mobile Use Skin Rash

It’s unclear how the skin rash is treated or how long it lasts since many there has only been three cases reported. It’s believed that there have been many more cases but people fail to seek medical attention so they go unreported.

Preventing Mobile Phone Dermatitis

If you’re concerned about an allergic reaction from the nickel on your phone, you can either use the speakerphone feature on your mobile or invest in a headset. These features are much safer anyway while driving or walking about your city/town.

Keep in mind though, there haven’t been many cases reported and it takes long term/excessive use of your mobile phone to risk an allergic reaction. While you can take precautions, it’s probably not something you have to become overly concerned about.
