Understanding Hypoallergenic Dogs

If you are looking for information on hypo-allergenic dogs, you are probably allergic to dogs and you think it’s the fur that bothers you. The truth is that it’s not the fur but what it collects, as well as the dog’s saliva and urine. While you don’t have to worry too much about the urine as long as your dog urinates outside, the dog’s saliva can be a problem if you buy a breed that drools all over your furniture, which is easy to avoid. If you’re allergic to what a dog’s fur collects such as pollen, dander and dust, then you will need a bit more help in finding the dog that’s perfect for you.

Dog Fur and Your Allergies

There’s no such thing as an hypo-allergenic dog. You can buy a hairless dog to fight the issue with the pollen and dust that fur collects but you may still have to deal with some dander. However, unless you are really sensitive to dander, the amount that one of these dogs produces shouldn’t be enough to set your allergies on fire. You can even find dogs that don’t produce that much dander, considered “low dander” dogs.

Precautions to Take to Decrease Your Dog Allergies

To keep dander under control, it’s important to keep your dog’s skin moistened by not over washing and properly grooming him regularly. To keep pollen off your dog, don’t allow him to spend too much time outdoors when pollen counts are high. Keeping your house as dust free as possible will also help it from collecting on your dog.
