This article really helped me understand the philosophy of acupuncture. My boyfriend got excellent relief with acupuncture treatments. Unfortunately, he had to stop because it was so expensive he could not afford it. I don’t understand why health insurance doesn’t cover acupuncture treatments! As I’ve mentioned before, I have horrid seasonal allergies. I take two medications just to make life bearable (most of the time, unless the pollen count is super high). Because I don’t really like having to take medication every single day, especially when it isn’t always 100% affective, I’m always looking for other options.
As I’ve mentioned before, I have horrid seasonal allergies. I take two medications just to make life bearable (most of the time, unless the pollen count is super high). Because I don’t really like having to take medication every single day, especially when it isn’t always 100% affective, I’m always looking for other options. One of the newest (really, it’s ancient) options that I’m considering is acupuncture. The only problem? I hate needles!

So why am I considering getting stuck by a bunch of needles on a regular basis? First, it isn’t supposed to hurt. Second, no bad side effects. Third, ancient proven remedy (anecdotal proof anyway). How does it work? Yeah, I was curious too.

Apparently during allergy season the acupuncturist works on alleviating the allergy symptoms. When allergy symptoms aren’t manifesting the acupuncturist works on buffering the immune system. Even more interesting is that specific treatments aren’t standardized. Instead, an individual is evaluated and a unique regime is created for him or her. I like that it isn’t a one size fits all approach as I happen to be oddly shaped when it comes to most medicines and medical treatments.

I find the idea to be very intriguing and have almost convinced myself to give it a try. Has anyone else tried acupuncture to alleviate allergy symptoms? How did it work for you?
