On December 20, 2009, a star was lost. A report released today indicates that Britney Murphy primarily died of pneumonia and drug intoxication. She also had a heart murmur and was iron deficient. Since she was just 32 years of age, people everywhere can take this tragedy as a lesson in understanding pneumonia symptoms and medication management.
Pneumonia Symptoms
Pneumonia is caused by bacteria and usually follows an upper respiratory infection (cold or flu). Many people think they are still experiencing the same cold or flu they had before, but instead, it’s progressed into something more severe.
The following are pneumonia symptoms:
- Fever
- Chest pain during and after cough
- Difficulty or short of breath
- Rapid heartbeat
- Mucous cough that is usually rust, green or tinted with blood
- Weakness or fatigue
- Diarrhea
- Nausea and/or vomiting
Medication Management for Pneumonia and Other Illnesses
It’s always important to tell your doctor all of the medications you are taking when you are prescribed new medication to treat pneumonia or other illness. Drug interactions can cause death or cause them to be ineffective.
Don’t forget to mention any over-the-counter drugs you are or may take to treat your symptoms. Herbal medication may also interact with prescription and over-the-counter drugs so check with your doctor about these.
Also, never mix medications unless directed by your doctor.
