Wear red for women's heart disease awareness!
Get your red on when you get dressed Friday morning and help women everywhere become better aware of heart disease.
Women’s Misconception of Heart Disease
Many people believe that heart disease a men’s medical issue, but they couldn’t be more wrong. Heart disease is the #1 killer of women and the reasons for this are simply due to unawareness.
Women have different symptoms for a heart attack than men do. Not only that, many women will attribute symptoms of a heart attack to some other malady. This means, that women go untreated for a heart attack, which puts them at a risk for subsequent ones that are much more powerful risking their life.
Helping Women Survive Heart Disease
The best thing you can do to help women survive heart disease is to pass along information about its symptoms. Keeping women aware of the signs of a heart attack will motivate them to seek medical attention if they do start to suffer from them.
Whether you’re a friend, family member, employer or educator, you can educate other women on heart disease easily by reading the following resources that the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute has posted on their website. In addition, encourage everyone to show support for heart health this Friday, February 5th by wearing red!
