Heart Attack Risk with Mixing Celebrex and Aspirin

In a recent study has found that individuals who suffer from arthritis may be increasing their risk for heart attack if they also take a low dose of aspirin to actually prevent one. Many older Americans are taking low dose aspirin to prevent a heart attack and many of these same Americans suffer from arthritis and receive Celebrex to help relieve them of their symptoms. While each of these preventative measures are beneficial individually, together they may cause more harm than good.

Researchers in the study believe that Celebrex decreases the effectiveness of the aspirin people who are at risk for heart attack take, leaving them susceptible.

Helping All of Your Symptoms

So what does this mean if you suffer from arthritis and are at risk for attack? Well, you’ll have to find an alternative solution to helping your symptoms of arthritis. Alternative medicines are available that may help with your pain or you may want to ask your doctor about other prescription medications that can help but doesn’t interfere with aspirin.

A Word of Caution About Mixing Medication

This new study serves as a reminder that it’s never a good idea to take mix medication without your doctor’s knowledge. While you may not have thought much about your low dose of aspirin, it could have detrimental effects to you when taken with other prescription medications. Always tell your doctor about all over-the-counter, alternative, and prescription medications you take.
