Many people who have uncontrollable anger think that their only problem is anger. However, many of these people are also under a great deal of stress and that is the root of their inability to manage their anger.
How Stress Influences Angry Emotions
When you are stressed, you are at a heighten state of awareness. You may feel pressured and on edge. One more thing that doesn’t go your way will push you over into a rage. While it may think that you should be able to control your anger even though you are stressed, it’s not as easy as you may think. It’s actually easier to control your stress than it is your anger.
When You Reduce Stress
When you use stress management techniques, you learn how to identify when you are starting to feel overwhelmed. Before it gets out of hand, you are able to take steps to combat whatever situation is occurring to try to keep your stress levels low. This way, when something unexpected happens in your life, you won’t feel bogged down already. You’ll be better able to deal with it and refrain from losing control.
Managing Anger When Stressed
Let’s face it: You can’t always be unstressed. Sometimes you will be dealing with a lot of chaos in your life and snap. One of the best ways to control your anger during difficult times in your life is to realize that you are susceptible to having an outburst. This way, you can stand back and catch yourself as soon as you feel your teeth clench, your fist tighten and voice rise. You can even let people around you know that you are under a lot of pressure and to excuse any behavior that may come of it.
